Christmas in Kingsport – a month-long holiday celebration – concludes this week with snow downtown, free carousel rides and the announcement of the winners of the tree decorating contest.
This is Kingsport partnered with the Downtown Kingsport Association this year to bring you the best in holiday events throughout the month of December. For more information about these events just visit www.christmasinkingsport.com.
Coming up later this week in downtown Kingsport:
Christmas at the Kingsport Carousel will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, December 21 at the Kingsport Carousel (320 Clinchfield Street).
The event will feature free carousel rides, Reindeer Games from the Kingsport Parks and Recreation Department, and for kids – free hot chocolate from Early Bird, candy canes, cookies from the Great American Cookie Company (while supplies last) and a free carousel ornament (while supplies last).
Snow will start falling at 1 p.m. and expect a visit from Santa Claus and the Grinch from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The Tree Decoration Awards Ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. in Centennial Park (245 E. Main Street). Come out to enjoy the final night of snow, see which Christmas trees were crowned the champions and listen to classic Christmas songs sung by the Kingsport Theatre Guild.

GENERAL NARRATIVE
In the late evening of December 15th, 2023, Kingsport Police Officers responded to the 1600 block of E Street in reference to a check welfare of a male lying in a ditch. Officers located an unresponsive white male estimated to be between the ages of 50-years-old and 60-years-old. The male had significant head trauma and the cause of the injuries is currently being investigated by the Kingsport Police Department Criminal Investigations Division. Officers could not locate any identifying documents on the male subject.
The male was wearing blue jean pants, a blue long-sleeved shirt, a black down vest, and white tennis shoes. The male is estimated to weigh approximately 250 to 275 pounds and is approximately 6 feet tall. He has medium length blondish white hair.
The Kingsport Police Department is asking anyone with information as to the male’s identity or information about last known whereabouts to call the Criminal Investigation Division at (423) 229-9429 or call Kingsport Central Dispatch at (423) 246-9111.

On December 13th, 2023, two Kingsport Police Department officers were recognized for their dedication to traffic enforcement at the Tennessee Highway Safety Office banquet in Greeneville, TN.
Lt. Steve Summey was awarded with the speed enforcement award, and Officer Joseph “Bailey” Malone was awarded with the seat belt enforcement award.
The Kingsport Police Department would like to publicly congratulate these officers and thank them for a job well done in helping to make Kingsport’s streets safer for the motoring public.

The Kingsport Public Library is getting in the Christmas spirit by offering a variety of fun and festive activities throughout the month of December. So, be sure to mark your calendars, don your favorite Christmas sweater and head down to the library to enjoy these holiday programs.
Holiday Card Making (December 19 at 6 p.m.) – Stop by the library with you and your family to make your own, personalized Christmas card using the wide variety of paper, markers, crayons and colored pencils. This family-friendly event is open to all ages.
Christmas Crafts (December 20 at 4 p.m.) – Join the library staff in an afternoon of Christmas crafting using an assortment of construction paper, yarn, pipe cleaners and colored pencils. At the end of the day, you’ll go home with the perfect large ornament for display or gifting. Open for grades K-5.
Craft and Chat: Marble Christmas Trees (December 21 at 12 p.m.) – Learn how to make beautiful, marbled Christmas tree decorations using only wood, nail polish and water. The library will have all the materials you need while supplies last. Open to adults.

The collective churches of Church Circle will present their annual Come to Bethlehem: A Living Nativity event in Downtown Kingsport on December 17 from 6 pm – 8 pm.
Please note the attached route and road closures for the event. The event is a drive-through event with a pedestrian path offered.
The only vehicle entrance will be East Sullivan Street from the intersection of East Sullivan and Center Streets.
All streets feeding into the event line-up route will be closed. There will be a right hand only turn exiting Church Circle and all vehicles must exit on Clinchfield Street. Parking is available at any of the Church Circle churches for those utilizing the pedestrian path. The path entrance will be on East Sullivan Street.
All road closures and traffic detours will be in place by 4:30 pm and will remain closed throughout the duration of the event. Directional signage for the event entrance will also be in place.

DECEMBER 15
The Kingsport Ballet will be performing live in Centennial Park at 6 p.m. Children of all ages can also play in the snow that will be falling and take holiday pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
DECEMBER 16
Make a stop at the Kingsport Public Library at 2 p.m. to watch the Polar Express movie and enjoy some snacks and hot chocolate. You’ll even have a chance to take a picture with the famous conductor himself. Afterwards, at 4 p.m. there will be Polar Express themed crafts and snow falling in Glen Bruce Park and the John Adams Elementary School Choir will perform at 6:30 p.m.
DECEMBER 17
A Living Nativity is returning to Church Circle from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on December 17. The live performance will include greeters, Roman centurions, merchants, shepherds, angels, wise men, Holy families, and traffic coordinators to make Bethlehem come alive in downtown Kingsport and tell the true story of Christmas.
