Honor Guard
The Kingsport Police Department’s Honor Guard was officially re-established in 2009 after the department had gone many years without an official unit. Prior to 2009, the Honor Guard was comprised of mostly volunteers on an as needed basis having no formal training.
Beginning in 2009, an Honor Guard was officially established and is now comprised of 20 members. The members were chosen from various areas of the department. The Honor Guard trains at a minimum of 8 hours every month and conducts special training sessions prior to team activation.
As part of the Honor Guards re-birth, their uniform was redesigned to have a more traditional appearance and to give the Honor Guard a very distinct look.
Within the Honor Guard, there are several smaller teams such as the Color Guard Team, Rifle Team, and Casket Team. Each smaller team has a specific mission and trains accordingly.
