KINGSPORT – Kingsport Parks and Recreation is now accepting registration for youth basketball. Leagues are offered for boys ages 5 ‚¬ 17 and girls ages 5 ‚¬ 15. Participants must live inside Kingsport City limits, own property in the City of Kingsport or attend Kingsport City Schools to be eligible. Registration fee is $20 per child. Registration forms are available at the Athletic Office in the Civic Auditorium Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30am and 5:30pm.

KINGSPORT The Dobyns-Bennett High School Alumni Association Board is proud to announce the Dobyns-Bennett Alumni Hall of Fame Class of 2013: Eddie Durham, Barbara Goodlett, Beryl Shipley, Vince Staten, Dickie Warren and Bruce Wilder.
The 2013 Induction Ceremony will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 11 a.m. located at MeadowView Marriott Conference Resort and Convention Center in the Junior Ballroom. The ceremony is open to the public but seating is limited. Tickets are $50 in advance and $60 the day of the event; lunch is provided.
“During the many years of existence of Dobyns-Bennett the school has graduated many students who continued their growth to extremely high levels of achievement and have made major contributions to society, said D-B Alumni Association Past President Bill Lee. The accomplishments of those in the Hall of Fame and the six new inductees are very impressive and I urge you to learn about these incredible men and women from Kingsport.

The Citizens Academy is not designed to prepare citizens to become police officers; however, it will give citizens a chance to walk a few steps in an officers shoes to get the feel of what it might be like to serve as a police officer and to better understand why officers do what they do.‚ Citizens Academy classes include a mixture of classroom presentations, demonstrations, and hands on activities.
Class topics include:
- 1) Introduction to K.P.D., Justice Center Tour
- 2) Collision and D.U.I. investigations
- 3) Crime Scene Investigations
- 4) E.O.D. (Explosive Ordinance Disposal)
- 5) The Police K-9
- 6) Traffic Stops and Building Searches
- 7) Defensive Tactics and the Use of Force
- 8) S.W.A.T. (Special Weapons and Tactics)
