Web Accessibility

The City of Kingsport is committed to ensuring accessibility of its website to individuals with disabilities. Conforming to the W3C WAI WCAG 2.0 guidelines will make content accessible to a wide range of individuals with disabilities. Also conforming to these guidelines will make the web content more usable to all visitors to the site.

All new and updated web content produced by the city will conform to W3C WAI WCAG 2.0 Level AA, by May 1, 2019.

This policy applies to all web content produced or updated by the city. The city will also ensure that third-party content providers on a city website are aware of the city’s web accessibility policy. The City of Kingsport will also favor providers based on their accessibility conformance claims.

The city will review all areas of the website on a monthly basis. The city’s webmaster will monitor the city’s websites for errors and issues with conformance. Accessibility checks have been incorporated into the publishing workflow for all new content.

Child Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)

Children under the age of 13 are not eligible to use services that require submission of personal information and should not submit any personal information to the city. This includes submitting personal information to the website as party of a user profile or personalization profile. If you are a child under the age of 13, you can use these services only if used together with your parents or guardians. Seek guidance from your parents if you are under the age of 13.

If the city decides to begin collecting personal information from children under the age of 13, the city will notify parents that it is being requested, disclose reasons for collecting it, and disclose the intended use of it. The city will seek verifiable parental consent before collecting any personally identifiable information. If the city does not collect such information, parents may request information on the type of data being collected, view their child’s information, and, if they choose, prohibit the city from making further use of their child’s information. The city will not provide personal information about children to third parties.

ConnectKingsport is the app for everything Kingsport! From potholes and damaged street signs to other local issues that need attention, ConnectKingsport makes reporting an issue easier than ever. This app uses GPS to recognize your location and gives you a menu of common quality-of-life conditions to select from. The app also allows you to upload pictures or videos to accompany your request. Residents can track the status of reports they or other members of the community have submitted until the issue is resolved.
