| SUBJECT: | Kingsport Police Investigating Serious Motor Vehicle Collision on West Stone Drive (Update) | ||

| GENERAL NARRATIVE | |||
| On February 2, 2020 at approximately 11:00 PM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers responded to a motor vehicle collision on West Stone Drive near Fairmont Avenue in Kingsport. Due to the seriousness of the crash, the K.P.D. Traffic Unit was called to the scene. The subsequent investigation revealed the following:
A white 2011 Honda Accord 4-door sedan, driven and solely occupied by a juvenile (17 year old white/female of Mount Carmel, TN) was lawfully traveling west on West Stone Drive near the intersection with Fairmont Avenue in Kingsport. A non-motorist, Paula Renee Collier (50 year old white/female of Kingsport), was traveling in a mobility chair that she had borrowed from an acquaintance, when she proceeded to cross West Stone Drive in a north to south direction. Ms. Collier traveled into the path of the Honda which resulted in a collision. The juvenile driver of the Honda was not injured; however, Ms. Collier was killed in the crash. This remains an active investigation by the K.P.D. Traffic Unit. As such, no further information can or will be released at this time. As previously released: On February 2, 2020 at approximately 11:00 PM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers responded to a motor vehicle collision on West Stone Drive near Fairmont Avenue in Kingsport. Due to the seriousness of the crash, the K.P.D. Traffic Unit has been called to the scene. As of the time of issuance of this news release, all westbound lanes of West Stone Drive at Fairmont Avenue are closed to traffic. The lanes will be reopened as soon as it is safe to do so. The investigation into the crash has just begun; therefore, absolutely no further details are currently available. Additional information will be released at an appropriate point in the investigation, which will likely not be until sometime the following day at the earliest. In the meantime, motorists are strongly urged to avoid the area and seek an alternate route, so as to avoid unnecessary congestion and delays, and prevent endangering first responders working at the scene. Anyone already in the immediate area is asked to be patient, use caution, and obey all detours and traffic instructions. |
