Kingsport Public Library hosting Seed Swap this Saturday
To celebrate the national, Take Your Child to the Library Day, the Kingsport Public Library is hosting a seed swap at the library this Saturday (February 7).
This free event will take place from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Kingsport Public Library (in the Fort Henry Mall). All green thumbs and garden enthusiasts are encouraged to come down, swap some seeds, share gardening tips and explore a variety of local organizations that will have information about all things gardening.
In addition, there will be a hands-on biodegradable seed pot activity where participants will plant seeds in pots that can go directly into the ground as a seedling (while supplies last).
“Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just starting out with one plant, our seed swap event is the perfect place to grow your garden dreams,” said Community Engagement Librarian Kate Woodworth.
Take Your Child to the Library Day was founded in 2011 at the Waterford Public Library in Connecticut by retired librarian Nadine Lipman, librarian Caitlin Augusta and author Nancy Elizabeth Wallace. Since its launch, Take Your Child to the Library Day has been celebrated across the United States and around the world, serving nearly 49 million people.
The annual celebration is the perfect opportunity to visit your local library, especially if you’ve not been by in a while. You can also get a library card, tour the children’s area and explore all of the programs, activities and events held every week within the library.
The Kingsport Public Library is an ideal place for children to read and play, discover new interests and make new friends. For more information about Take Your Child to the Library Day, please visit https://takeyourchildtothelibrary.org.
