Burglary Suspect Arrested by Kingsport Police Officers

GENERAL NARRATIVE

On May 10, 2023, Kingsport Police Officers responded to Colonial Heights Coin Laundry in reference to a burglary. Officers discovered forced entry and a damaged ATM inside the business. (Case: 23-009257)

On June 30, 2023, Kingsport Police Officers responded to Discount Tobacco in reference to a burglary. During their investigation, Officers discovered that a suspect had forced entry into the business and taken an estimated $7,250.00 in merchandise and money. (Case: 23-013228)

On August 1, 2023, Kingsport Police Officers took a report of a stolen Toyota Avalon in the area of Bowater Drive (Case: 23-015586).

Through their investigation, Detectives identified Harley Moorefield as a suspect in the stolen car from Bowater Drive. Moorefield was also developed as the suspect in the burglaries at Colonial Heights Coin Laundry and Discount Tobacco, and detectives obtained a warrant for his arrest.

On August 2, 2023, Kingsport Officers located Moorefield exiting the stolen vehicle at Model City Motel. Moorefield ran from officers and was apprehended a short distance from the stolen car. Officers searched a backpack in the passenger seat of the recovered Toyota and located drug paraphernalia and suspected Schedule III drugs (Case: 23-015705).

The charges against Moorefield include two counts of burglary, vandalism, theft over $1,000.00, evading arrest, simple possession, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Moorefield is also a person of interest in other active cases that the Kingsport Police Department is investigating.
