SUBJECT: Female Juvenile Suspect in Custody in Third J.S.M.S. Bomb Threat
DATE: April 24, 2015
GENERAL NARRATIVE
A female juvenile suspect has been arrested and charged with Filing a False Report by Making a Bomb Threat, a Class C Felony, in connection with the most recent bomb threat at John Sevier Middle School.

The Kingsport Police Department and the Kingsport City School System take this criminal activity very seriously and wish to stress that this behavior will not be tolerated and those responsible are being held accountable.

As previously released:

On April 23, 2015 at approximately 2:30 PM, the Kingsport Police Department was called back to John Sevier Middle School, located at 1200 Wateree Street to investigate the third bomb threat in the past two days. Once again, the school was temporarily evacuated while K.P.D. could clear the school. Students, faculty, and staff where eventually allowed to return to the school with dismissal occurring at the usual time and manner. This most recent threat is still under investigation.

The third threat occurred less than three hours after two juveniles were arrested for the previous two threats. Both individuals are being charged with Filing a False Report by Making a Bomb Threat which is a Class C Felony. Both suspects will be confined in an area juvenile detention facility while they await further action in Juvenile Court.

The Kingsport Police Department and the Kingsport City School System are encouraging parents to use this opportunity to discuss the seriousness of this criminal activity with their school-aged children as a possible deterrent to further instances of this nature.

Bays Mountain Park Set to Host Astronomy Day

KINGSPORT – On Saturday, April 25, 2015, from 12:30 until 10:00 p.m., Bays Mountain Park and the Bays Mountain Astronomy Club will celebrate the International Day of Astronomy with free presentations, displays and activities for the entire public. Rain or shine, visitors can spend an exciting and informative day at Bays Mountain Park where they can learn about the science and hobby of astronomy. All non-planetarium astronomy-related activities are free and are perfect fun for the entire family! Weather permitting; the club will also be hosting daytime viewing of the sun and nighttime viewing of Jupiter, Venus, and much more!

On the walkway in front of the Nature Center from noon until 4:30 p.m., there will be displays and presentations where visitors can learn about astronomy, telescopes, radio astronomy, careers and education in astronomy.‚  An extended session of our SunWatch program will occur from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Bays Mountain Observatories. Visitors will be able to safely observe sunspots and other features of the Sun through specially filtered high-powered telescopes (weather permitting.)

The evenings activities will begin at 8:00 p.m. with spectacular views of celestial delights awaiting at the Parks StarWatch program. Savor a wonderful view of Jupiter and its four moons, be awe-struck by the distance to galaxies, and feel like youre flying low over the moon.‚  These views and more will be seen with the Bays Mountain Astronomy Clubs telescopes at our Observatory.  A live presentation about what is up in the night sky will take place in the Planetarium if the weather does not cooperate.

Planetarium show tickets are $4.00 per person.‚  All non-planetarium Astronomy Day-related activities are free and are perfect fun for the entire family!

Schedule of Events

Afternoon:

12:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Displays, Demonstrations & Information (free!): Walkway in front of Nature Center (inside Nature Center, if raining.)

2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Solar Viewing (free!): ‚ Observatory.

Thrill at viewing different layers of the Sun up close and in great detail. Safely see sunspots and prominences. Weather dependent.

Evening:

8:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. Nighttime Viewing (free!): ‚ Observatory.

Spectacular views of celestial delights await you with the Bays Mountain Astronomy Clubs telescopes. Companion Animal Hospital to Host 2nd Annual Fluffapalooza to Benefit K.P.D. K-9 Unit

KINGSPORT – On May 9, 2015, Companion Animal Hospital will be hosting their 2nd Annual Fluffapalooza to benefit the Kingsport Police Departments K-9 Unit.‚  The event will take place from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM at 3315 Roller Drive in Colonial Heights.‚  The K.P.D. K-9 Unit will be conducting a police dog demonstration at 3:00 PM.

SUBJECT: Two Juvenile Suspects in Custody in Repeat Bomb Threats at John Sevier Middle School
DATE: April 23, 2015
GENERAL NARRATIVE
In what appears to be a copy-cat repeat of yesterday’s incident, on April 23, 2015, shortly after 12:00 PM, the Kingsport Police Department was called back to John Sevier Middle School, located at 1200 Wateree Street in Kingsport, to investigate a second bomb threat. All students, faculty, and staff were temporarily evacuated while the school could be cleared by the Kingsport Police Department.

During the course of the investigation, an 11 year old black male was identified as the suspect in today’s bomb threat. He was subsequently taken into custody by the K.P.D. School Resource Officer assigned to the school.

All students, faculty, and staff were soon cleared to return to the school and resume normal activities.

Just prior to today’s bomb threat, a 14 year old white male had been identified as the suspect in yesterday’s bomb threat. He was already in the custody of the School Resource Officer when today’s threat was discovered.

Both individuals are being charged with Filing a False Report by Making a Bomb Threat which is a Class C Felony. Both suspects will be confined in an area juvenile detention facility while they await further action in Juvenile Court.

The Kingsport Police Department and the Kingsport City School System are encouraging parents to use this opportunity to discuss the seriousness of this criminal activity with their school-aged children as a possible deterrent to further instances of this nature.

As previously released:

On April 22, 2015, as of approximately 2:15 PM, John Sevier Middle School has been searched and cleared by the Kingsport Police Department, with nothing found to substantiate the threat. All students, faculty, and staff have returned to the school to resume their activities. School will dismiss today at the usual time and in the usual manner. The school system has sent out phone and email messages to parents updating them on the situation. The bomb threat remains under investigation.

As previously released:

On April 22, 2015, shortly before 1:00 PM, the Kingsport Police Department was called to John Sevier Middle School, located at 1200 Wateree Street in Kingsport, to investigate a bomb threat. All students, faculty, and staff are safe and have been temporarily relocated to an off campus location. The school system has sent out phone and email messages to parents notifying them of the situation. Parents are encouraged to stay tuned for further messages from the school system.
