| SUBJECT: | Two Juvenile Suspects in Custody in Repeat Bomb Threats at John Sevier Middle School | ||

| GENERAL NARRATIVE | |||
| In what appears to be a copy-cat repeat of yesterday’s incident, on April 23, 2015, shortly after 12:00 PM, the Kingsport Police Department was called back to John Sevier Middle School, located at 1200 Wateree Street in Kingsport, to investigate a second bomb threat. All students, faculty, and staff were temporarily evacuated while the school could be cleared by the Kingsport Police Department.
During the course of the investigation, an 11 year old black male was identified as the suspect in today’s bomb threat. He was subsequently taken into custody by the K.P.D. School Resource Officer assigned to the school. All students, faculty, and staff were soon cleared to return to the school and resume normal activities. Just prior to today’s bomb threat, a 14 year old white male had been identified as the suspect in yesterday’s bomb threat. He was already in the custody of the School Resource Officer when today’s threat was discovered. Both individuals are being charged with Filing a False Report by Making a Bomb Threat which is a Class C Felony. Both suspects will be confined in an area juvenile detention facility while they await further action in Juvenile Court. The Kingsport Police Department and the Kingsport City School System are encouraging parents to use this opportunity to discuss the seriousness of this criminal activity with their school-aged children as a possible deterrent to further instances of this nature. As previously released: On April 22, 2015, as of approximately 2:15 PM, John Sevier Middle School has been searched and cleared by the Kingsport Police Department, with nothing found to substantiate the threat. All students, faculty, and staff have returned to the school to resume their activities. School will dismiss today at the usual time and in the usual manner. The school system has sent out phone and email messages to parents updating them on the situation. The bomb threat remains under investigation. As previously released: On April 22, 2015, shortly before 1:00 PM, the Kingsport Police Department was called to John Sevier Middle School, located at 1200 Wateree Street in Kingsport, to investigate a bomb threat. All students, faculty, and staff are safe and have been temporarily relocated to an off campus location. The school system has sent out phone and email messages to parents notifying them of the situation. Parents are encouraged to stay tuned for further messages from the school system. |
