GENERAL NARRATIVE |
The Kingsport Police Department is still searching for felony suspect Shawn L. Botkin who rammed his estranged wife’s car in a December domestic violence incident and later evaded a traffic stop initiated by responding officers. K.P.D. has recently received reliable information that Mr. Botkin is telling acquaintances that this matter has already been adjudicated in court; however, this is absolutely not the case. There is still an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
On December 15, 2014 at approximately 8:00 AM, a female domestic violence victim came to the Kingsport Justice Center to report an incident that had just occurred on East Stone Drive in Kingsport. She stated that her husband, Shawn L. Botkin, with whom she has recently separated, had chased her from Blountville to Kingsport. He was driving a compact sport utility vehicle, believed to be a Suzuki Vitara or Geo Tracker, that was two-tone green over silver in color. She said that at approximately 7:45 AM, she was westbound on 11-W, when Mr. Botkin passed her going the opposite direction. She reported that he turned around and caught up with her as she entered the city limits of Kingsport. She said that he pulled up beside her near the intersection of East Stone Drive at Beechnut Drive and told her, “I got you.” She said that near the intersection of Indian Trail Drive he bumped her vehicle in the rear end with the front of his vehicle. She reported that Mr. Botkin continued to follow her until just before her arrival at the Kingsport Justice Center. Sgt. Steve Summey of the K.P.D. Traffic Unit responded to the Downtown Kingsport area to be on the lookout for Mr. Botkin’s vehicle. Sgt. Summey observed the vehicle traveling on West Center Street near Lynn Garden Drive. Sgt. Summey caught up to the vehicle on West Sullivan Street and initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle ran the stop sign on Sullivan Street at Donelson Drive, accelerated eastbound on Lovedale Drive at a high rate of speed, and passed another vehicle on the double yellow line. Due to the extreme reckless driving and the safety of other motorists, Sgt. Summey wisely terminated the pursuit. Moments later, another motorist traveling on Clinchfield Street observed the suspect vehicle on Donelson Drive approaching Clinchfield Street. The motorist reported that the suspect vehicle ran the stop sign on Donelson Drive at Clinchfield Street, sideswiped his car, and continued to flee on Clinchfield Street. Shawn L. Botkin is still at large. A warrant has been obtained charging him with: 1) Felony Reckless Endangerment 2) Felony Evading Arrest 3) Domestic Assault 4) Driving on a Revoked License 5) Leaving the Scene of an Accident Anyone who may know where he can be located is asked to contact Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111. Alternatively, if an individual who is able to supply information related to this or any other case wishes not to be identified, tips can be submitted anonymously via online “Citizen Feedback” forms available at the following link: |
