McGuire Named Outstanding Social Studies Teacher

KINGSPORT ‚¬ Dobyns-Bennett High School Social Studies Teacher Cynthia Sellers McGuire has been named the 2010 recipient of a Mary Graham Outstanding Social Studies Teacher Award.

McGuire was one of five teachers across the state of Tennessee to receive the award given at the annual Tennessee Council for the Social Studies State Conference held in Memphis on March 12.‚  Criteria for the award include excellence in the areas of classroom instruction, curriculum development, leadership in the teaching profession, professional development, and community involvement.

McGuire has served as social studies teacher at Dobyns-Bennett since 1992. She holds a Bachelors of Arts from Clemson University in Secondary Education – Social Science and a Master of Science from the University of Tennessee in Curriculum and Instruction. She is a member of the 2011 Dobyns-Bennett Principals Leadership Team and the Kingsport Education Association. She has served as the Social Studies Department Chairman and is the sponsor of the BETA Club.
