General Narrative

An adult has been injured and a child killed in a fatal house fire in Kingsport.

The following is being released at the request of and under the direction of K.F.D. Public Education Officer Barry Brickey.

On September 10, 2013 at approximately 10:10 AM, the Kingsport Fire Department responded to a house fire at 1009 Rosetree Lane in Kingsport. K.F.D. arrived on scene within four minutes of receiving notification.

Upon their arrival, flames were visible emanating from the front of the residence. K.F.D. Firefighters entered the home through the rear in an attempt to battle the blaze and immediately began to search for victims.

With three minutes of their arrival on scene, K.F.D. located two victims, one adult and one child, inside the residence. The adult was transported to Holston Valley Medical Center for treatment; however, the child did not survive the fire.

Public Education Officer Brickey stated that K.F.D. was not able to locate any working smoke alarms in the residence. He stressed that having at least one working smoke alarm in a residence affords individuals a 50% better chance of surviving a house fire.

Brickey advised that additional information will be released as it becomes available.
