| SUBJECT: | Fatal I-81 Single Motor Vehicle Collision Under Investigation by K.P.D. | ||

| GENERAL NARRATIVE | |||
| On June 6, 2019 at approximately 6:00 AM, the Kingsport Police Department was notified of the discovery of a single motor vehicle that had come to a rest on its top alongside Lynn Road, underneath the Interstate 81 overpass. The individual who reported it had apparently just discovered the crashed vehicle after the fact and did not see the actual preceding collision.
Responding K.P.D. Patrol Officers located two deceased occupants inside of the vehicle. The vehicle’s engine was already cold, so it is presently unknown exactly what time the crash occurred. Due to the severity of the incident, Certified Crash Reconstructionists with the K.P.D. Traffic Unit were summoned to the scene and assumed the lead role in the investigation. Their findings thus far are as follows: A red 2015 Kia Rio compact 4-door sedan, driven by Rosalyn Maria Waddle (of Hampton, VA) and also occupied by one additional front seat passenger, Kimberlee A Dietz (of Williamsburg, VA), was southbound on I-81 just before the Lynn Road overpass (at approximately the 63.8 mile-marker), when for unknown reasons, the vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway and entered the grass median. The vehicle traveled a short distance along the median, became airborne due to the uneven terrain, and struck the top of a guardrail. The vehicle continued airborne, flipped end-over-end, fell approximately 20 feet, and landed upside down on a grass embankment adjacent to the opposite side of Lynn Road below. This crash remains under active investigation by the K.P.D. Traffic Unit. Investigators have requested that anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who may be able to provide any additional information that could assist with this investigation to please contact them in a timely manner at 423-224-2750.
