Westfield Sewer Project to require closure of Cox Hollow Road segment

KINGSPORT‚¬â€ A section of Cox Hollow Road will be closed from Rock Springs Road to a point near the intersection with Westfield Place for the next two weeks to allow for installation of a new sanitary sewer line. The road closure will begin Thursday, October 31 and run through Saturday November 16. Contractors from Thomas Construction will be performing the work, with motorists advised to seek alternative routes and use the utmost caution near the work zone.

Kingsport to celebrate National Public Works Week with Thursday event at Civic Auditorium

KINGSPORT ‚¬ The week of May 20 through May 26 has been declared as National Public Works week by the American Public Works Association, and Kingsport public work professionals will be on hand on Thursday, May 24, to demonstrate the work of those who plan, manage and maintain the City‚ basic infrastructure, including water, sewer and transportation networks. Other Public Works group members also will detail the City‚ efforts in solid waste collection and disposal, as well as maintenance of public buildings and grounds.

Leadership Kingsport accepting applications for next year

KINGSPORT – Leadership Kingsport is seeking applications for the next year‚ class. The mission of Leadership Kingsport is to ‚¬“develop leaders who give life to community dreams‚.‚  This year’s class just graduated 31 participants from the 9 month program.

The deadline for applications is June 1, 2012. Classes begin in August and will be completed by May ‚¬ meeting are held once per month.

Kingsport BMA passes fiscal 2012 budget on first reading

¯»¿¯»¿¯»¿KINGSPORT¯»¿Kingsport‘s Board of Mayor and Aldermen unanimously approved the proposed fiscal 2012 budget on first reading this week, a budget that balances without a tax increase for the sixth year in a row. The budget will be adopted, assuming a majority vote, on final reading in two weeks.

Nationally Renowned Speaker Dr. Bill Daggett to Appear in Kingsport

KINGSPORT ‚¬ ‚ On Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 7:00 p.m., Kingsport City Schools will host nationally renowned education expert Dr. Bill Daggett in a special evening session for parents, staff, and community members.‚  Titled Preparing Students for the 21st Century, the presentation will focus on the changes in‚ the technological, globally driven world in which our students will live and work.‚  Dr. Daggett will describe what schools must do to prepare students for their future, rather than our past.
