Ample parking can be found in downtown Kingsport
Between curbside parking, 11 public parking lots and the parking garage on Shelby Street, more than 1,800 parking spaces can be found in the 44 blocks of downtown Kingsport.
While premium, front-door parking may not always be available, downtown parking as a whole is not an issue with free, public parking lots conveniently located throughout the downtown area.
The Downtown Kingsport Association is launching a social media campaign to inform the public about the free parking options downtown, where the lots are located and the time it typically takes to walk from one of these lots to the center of downtown.
“Summertime in Downtown Kingsport brings lots of visitors……and we welcome every one of them, said Robin Cleary, senior director of the Downtown Kingsport Association. “Within a short walk from any of the public parking lots and curbside parking, the downtown business district offers unique shops and boutiques, salons, tasty eateries, pubs, breweries and distilleries, along with a variety of entertainment venues.”
In addition to the 364-space parking garage on Shelby Street, three large public parking lots can be found near the Higher Education Center, two more along New Street, one at the corner of Shelby and Main, another at Commerce and Market, one beside Bellafina Chocolates and a small one at Cumberland and Sullivan.
You can reach the heart of downtown (Center and Broad) in just a few minutes from all these free public parking lots. The 218-space lot on Clinchfield Street has a walk time of 8 minutes to Center and Broad; the one at Sullivan and New four minutes and the one on Commerce Street just three minutes.
Based on the most recent counts conducted by Kingsport’s traffic department, all the lots and the parking garage are underutilized during most hours of the day.
