The Kingsport Police Department will be holding a press conference to recognize a local animal hospital for their donation to the K-9 Unit.
On Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 2:00 PM, K.P.D. will hold a Press Conference to recognize Companion Animal Hospital for their generous donation to the K.P.D. K-9 Unit. This Press Conference will take place at the Kingsport Justice Center, located at 200 Shelby Street in Kingsport. On Saturday, October 12, 2013, Companion Animal Hospital held “Fluffapalooza,” a privately sponsored benefit for the K.P.D. K-9 Unit. At this event, Companion Animal Hospital raised approximately $900, the entirety of which has been spent on pre-assembled Police K-9 First-Aid Trauma Kits. These kits will be presented to the K.P.D. K-9 Unit at Wednesday’s press conference. The K-9 Unit will issue one of these kits to each K-9 dog/handler team for use in the field. Sgt. Kevin Hite, a former K-9 handler himself who now supervises the K-9 Unit stated, “It is our hope that these kits never have to be utilized; however, in the event their use becomes necessary, the contents of these kits may be the only thing that helps save the life of one of our dogs.” Dr. Jody Thomas of Companion Animal Hospital stated that most of the items in these kits are used every day in their veterinary clinic. She has pledged to replace free of charge, any items from the kit that have to be used or expire due to lack of use. A photo of one of these kits is included in this release. Also included are two file photos of the K.P.D. K-9 Unit. K.P.D. is asking area media representatives to be present for this conference to help the K-9 Unit publicly recognize Companion Animal Hospital for their benevolence.
