Kingsport Fire Department releases 2024 annual report
The Kingsport Fire Department recently issued its annual report, which gives a breakdown of the types and number of incidents firefighters responded to last year and how those numbers have changed since 2023.
The report also gives a brief history of the department, the highlights and major accomplishments of the previous year, along with the short term and long term goals of the department.
According to the annual report, firefighters responded to nearly 7,600 incidents during 2024, a number down by more than 500 calls when compared to a year ago. The report shows the number of structure fires dropped last year, vehicle fires ticked up slightly and unfortunately, one fire related death was reported within the city during 2024.
“Overall, last year was a productive year for the Kingsport Fire Department,” said Kingsport Fire Chief Scott Boyd. “We acquired new equipment, assisted our neighboring communities during their time of need and increased our training hours. So, I’m proud of what the men and women of the department accomplished in 2024.”
Major accomplishments by the KFD in 2024:
- Took delivery of a new Hazmat Unit
- New Pierce Engine was ordered to replace an older engine.
- Responded to neighboring counties for Hurricane Helene relief
- Deployed three firefighters to South Carolina for Hurricane Debby relief.
- Continued partnership with DB Fire Science program.
- Gear washers installed at Station 1, 5 and 6.

- Firefighters responded to 7,596 incidents.
- Number of structure fires – 94 (loss of $1.03 million)
- Number of vehicle fires – 53 (loss of $409,000)
- Number of medical calls – 5,814

- Total fire loss – approximately $3.16 million
Last year, Kingsport Fire Department personnel completed nearly 31,000 hours of training across all disciplines, an increase of 1,291 hours from the previous year.
In 2024, 48,391 adults and children participated in Community Risk Reduction presentations and activities. The KFD inspected and consulted on 306 child passenger seats and instructed them in the proper installation.
Kingsport is one of 32 communities across the state that enjoys an ISO rating of 2. Only seven communities in Tennessee have an ISO rating of 1.
As of December 2024, the Kingsport Fire Department had 115 personnel working in eight fire stations, serving a population of more than 55,400 residents living within 54 square miles.
