| The Kingsport Police Department is searching for a suspect and a pickup truck that are believed to be involved in at least two area thefts of utility trailers. Trailer theft prevention tips are also included at the end of this release.
On February 22, 2017, a black dual axle flatbed utility trailer was stolen from Premier Equipment LLC, located at 921 East Stone Drive in Kingsport. At the time it was stolen, the trailer contained two, quite expensive, Kubota lawnmowers. The total value of the trailer and contents was in excess of $14,000. Following the theft, the stolen trailer was observed on local traffic camera footage being towed through a nearby intersection behind a white full-size standard cab pickup truck (believed to possibly be a Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra or similarly styled vehicle). A photo taken from that footage is included in this release. The actual footage has been made available for viewing on the K.P.D. YouTube channel via the link below: On March 16, 2017, a black dual axle enclosed box-style utility trailer was stolen from a residence, located in the 400 block of Arrowhead Drive in Kingsport. The trailer had the word “CAUTION” printed on the back and had an estimated value of $2,000. Following the theft, the stolen trailer was observed on local traffic camera footage being towed through a nearby intersection behind a white full-size standard cab pickup (believed to possibly be a Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra or similarly styled vehicle). A photo taken from that footage is included in this release. The actual footage has been made available for viewing on the K.P.D. YouTube channel via the link below: These two incidents are believed to potentially be related and believed to likely involve the same suspect and the same white pickup. Anyone who recognizes this suspect pickup, and may potentially know the identity of the owner or operator, or the location of either of the stolen trailers or lawnmowers, is asked to contact Detectives in the K.P.D. Alternatively, if an individual who is able to supply information related to this or any other case wishes not to be identified, tips can be submitted anonymously via online “Citizen Feedback” forms available at the following link: https://www.kingsporttn.gov/city-services/police-department/contact-us The Kingsport Police Department would like to caution area businesses and citizens who own utility trailers that thefts of this nature do occur periodically in Kingsport. Trailer owners are strongly urged to take at least some basic steps to secure their trailers to prevent or at least deter these types of crimes. Using a specialty trailer tongue lock is advised. Locking the trailer to an immovable object using a heavy chain or cable and padlock is also highly recommended, and when possible, run the chain or cable through the wheel spokes to prevent it from rolling. Trailer owners are also encouraged to, if feasible, remove valuable cargo from the trailer when not in use and store it in a more secure environment. |
