Christmas time is almost here, and for those boys and girls who want to make sure they’re on the ‘nice list’ this year, Kingsport Parks and Recreation is helping letters get to Santa Claus.
All parents have to do is address their kids’ letters to Kingsport Parks and Recreation, 301 Louis Street, Kingsport, TN 37660, and make sure to leave a return address. For those who would rather drop their letters off, there is a special drop-off box at the V.O. Dobbins, Sr. complex located next to the gym. All those who send letters can expect a prompt response from Saint Nick himself in approximately one week.
Letters are being accepted from now until December 14, so get yours in soon to have a jolly letter back from the North Pole by Christmas.

| Effective November 19, 2021, the Kingsport Police Department is issuing a scam alert to area citizens regarding a kidnapping and ransom hoax that is being perpetrated in and around this jurisdiction. While scams of this nature are not new, over the past 48 hours, no less than three (3) similar scams have been reported to area law enforcement. The elements of the hoax are as follows:
A would be victim will receive a phone call or other form of communication from a scam artist claiming that they have kidnapped one of their family members, friends, or loved ones. They have done some research and will typically name a specific person who is known to the targeted individual. There will often be screaming in the background allegedly originating from the named kidnapping victim. The scam artist will then threaten to harm the hostage and demand that a ransom be paid in exchange for their release. The targeted individual will be instructed to go to a specific location to arrange for payment, typically in the form of a wired money transfer. Citizens are cautioned that if they receive such a call, it is almost certainly a scam. Due to originating telephone number altering technology that is readily available, it is highly doubtful that the individuals carrying out these scams are local, and entirely possible that they may not even be operating from within the United States. Anyone who is contacted in such a manner should absolutely not turn over any funds to the caller, and contact law enforcement to report the incident immediately. The new Kingsport City Hall has been honored with the Mark Miller Tennessee Public Works Project of the Year Award.
Regions Bank building is now home to Kingsport’s City Hall.
The city purchased the Regions Bank building for $2.82 million to support operational effectiveness, better serve Kingsport residents and help provide more secured courtrooms for the city.
Why move?
“The most expensive option,” said Ryan McReynolds, Deputy City Manager, “was to do nothing.”
The city had an opportunity to consolidate city services and improve efficiency as well as the overall customer service experience and it followed through. Long term, this is a financial savings to the city.
“By repurposing a six story 70,000+ square foot building into Kingsport’s new City Hall we were able to achieve three primary objectives,” said City Manager Chris McCartt.
“First, by repurposing a former bank building, located in our downtown, we were able to save the tax payers a tremendous amount of money versus new construction. Second, we have truly created a one-stop shop for our customers as a result of consolidating offices that were previously located in separate buildings. Third, as a result of the consolidation of offices for the first time in over three decades, we are seeing improved internal efficiencies for our operations. These three objectives will continue to have a profound impact on our operations and for our customers for decades to come. Additionally, this building will be a point of pride for our citizens.”
The Project of the Year award, given by the Tennessee Chapter of the American Public Works Association (TCAPWA), recognizes a project within the state of Tennessee that emphasizes outstanding planning, construction and management. The entire process of the new Kingsport City Hall project, from design to construction and project management, made Kingsport’s success worthy of this statewide recognition.
Earlier this year, the City of Kingsport also won the state Project of the Year award for Miracle Field, honoring Kingsport with the award twice in one year – a first in the state!

Please note – if you pay your bill via bank draft or auto-pay, you will need to re-enroll through the new portal.
No actions are needed if you pay in person, over the phone, by check, or use the drop box or JACK kiosk.
