Sewing can be a fun and enjoyable hobby as well as a practical and useful skill to use throughout your life. Many people use sewing as a form of creative expression, crafting patterns for art, blankets, clothes are more.
Kingsport Parks and Recreation is embracing this skill by offering a You & Your Sewing Machine course this fall. This new, beginner-friendly class aims to help participants become comfortable using their sewing machine.
Participants will learn basic machine operation, maintenance and simple sewing techniques while building the confidence to start your own sewing projects.
One-day courses will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on September 19 and October 10 at the V.O. Dobbins, Sr. Complex (Douglass Room). Open for participants ages 10 and older and the cost is $30 for city residents and $35 for non-city residents.
Note – Participants will need to bring their own sewing machine. Fabric, thread and stuffing will be provided by the instructor, and participants will get to take home a self-made pillow.
