Kingsport Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce Girls in Sports Day – a one-day program offering a variety of sports demonstrations and activities for girls of all ages.
Participating in sports provides numerous benefits for girls – learning teamwork and cooperation, improving physical and mental health and creating higher self-esteem. Engaging in athletics builds life skills well beyond the playing field.
Girls in Sports Day will take place on August 29 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the V.O. Dobbins, Sr. Complex (301 Louis Street). The event is free and open to girls of all ages. Participants can expect to see hands-on sports demonstrations, skill-building activities and team challenges featuring basketball, soccer, volleyball, softball and flag football.
Participants will also have the opportunity to meet and talk to Milligan University athletes and Courtney Whitson – head girls basketball coach at Dobyns- Bennett High School – about their stories, while gaining valuable insight into their athletic journeys.
“Whether you’re new to sports or already an athlete, this event is a wonderful opportunity to meet and learn from your peers,” said Program Administrator Erin Larkin. “At the same time, maybe you’ll make some new friends or take an interest in a new sport you’ve never played before.”

As the weather turns cooler this fall, now is the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors with friends and family, play some games and spend a few hours at one of the many parks found within the Model City.
Beginning this Thursday, Kingsport Parks and Recreation is offering a new program to the community – Pops in the Park. The program involves visiting and playing in a different park each week, enjoying tasty popsicles and making new friends in the community.
Pops in the Park will take place at Riverwalk Park this Thursday (August 27) at 10 a.m. The program is free, open to the public and does not require registration.
Subsequent dates include September 8, September 23, October 9 and October 16 – all weather dependent. Visit the Kingsport Parks and Recreation Facebook page the day before for each event location.
“Pops in the Park is just our way to encourage families to go outside, maybe make some new friends and enjoy all our local parks have to offer,” said Program Administrator Erin Larkin.

SUBJECT: End of Watch: K-9 Kylo

GENERAL NARRATIVE
The Kingsport Police Department shares with great sadness that retired K-9 Kylo died on Friday, August 14, 2026. K-9 Kylo began his watch with the Kingsport Police Department in 2017 and retired in 2024. Kylo’s first handler was officer Caleb Clawson, his second was officer Wesley Hite, and then his last handler was officer Robby Hughes. K-9 Kylo remained in the care of his last handler for the past two years before he suffered a medical episode last Friday.
K-9 Kylo was a dual-purpose narcotics K-9, which means he performed both patrol duties (such as suspect apprehension, building searches, and handler protection) and narcotics detection (identifying substances like cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine). K-9 Kylo assisted in numerous narcotics arrests and apprehensions. Kylo received a police escort to Hamlett Dobson Funeral Home, where he was cremated.

The Kingsport Police Department is searching for 16-year-olds Haley and Jalynn Adams, who are believed to have left voluntarily from an address on Dorothy Street. Haley and Jalynn are both about 5 feet, 3 inches tall and weigh 130 pounds.
Haley has multicolored hair and gray eyes. She was last seen wearing a plain white shirt, plaid blue, white, and gray pajama pants, and white and cream Jordans. She has a tattoo on her right arm that says “family,” a “J” tattoo on her right ring finger, and a nose ring.
Jalynn has blonde hair and green eyes. She was last seen wearing a black shirt with the words “I want to create,” white-washed jeans, and black and white Jordans. She has a “777” tattoo on her neck and a smiley face on her left ankle.
Haley and Jalynn have been entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) as runaway juveniles.

AS PREVIOUSLY RELEASED:
On Wednesday, August 12, 2026, the Kingsport Police Department responded to a crash that occurred on Fort Henry Drive near Kenridge Street. Investigating officers determined that a Yamaha motorcycle (Vehicle #1) and a Scion TC (Vehicle #2) were traveling south on Fort Henry Drive in the right lane. For an unknown reason, the driver of the Yamaha (Vehicle #1) came unseated from the motorcycle and landed on the roadway. The Scion TC (Vehicle #2) then drove over the driver of the motorcycle (Vehicle #1).
On Friday, August 14, 2026, the driver of the motorcycle (Vehicle #1) was pronounced dead at Johnson City Medical Center. The investigation into this crash is ongoing, and no further details will be released at this time.

SUBJECT: Kingsport Woman Charged with Burglary & Public Intoxication

GENERAL NARRATIVE
On Wednesday, August 19, 2026, the Kingsport Police Department responded to a burglary at Auto Solutions Center on Lynn Garden Drive. The business owner observed a white female in a blue tank top and shorts exit the office area of Auto Solutions Center, even though the establishment was closed. The owner confronted the female, who then fled the scene. Patrol officers arrived on scene and located a female matching the previous description in the area of Sunset Avenue. The owner of Auto Solutions identified the woman, and officers arrested her and transported her to the Kingsport City Jail, where she was identified as Tammy Seaver, a 45-year-old Kingsport resident.
Tammy was charged with one (1) count of burglary and one (1) count of public intoxication. Tammy remains incarcerated in the Sullivan County Jail at the time of this news release.
