The Kingsport Aquatic Center is hosting the Tennessee Regional M.A.T.E. (Marine Advanced Technology Education) Underwater Robotics Competition, the first competition of its kind to be held at the Kingsport Aquatic Center.
The competition calls for students to design and build an underwater robot that can locate the wreckage of an airplane, install equipment to monitor earthquakes and complete a renewable energy project, all of which will be simulated at the Kingsport Aquatic Center.
The competition will take place in the HMG Competition Pool on April 28th and set up will take place the day prior. The HMG Competition Pool will be closed all day on April 27th and 28th for the competition.
The public is invited to attend the competition and cheer for their local teams. The Tennessee Regional M.A.T.E. Underwater Robotics Competition will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be designated parking for competition attendees at the Kingsport Aquatic Center.

The City of Kingsport’s Office of Cultural Arts is beginning the process of creating a Public Art Master Plan. Citizen input is welcomed and desired as the Cultural Arts Committee embarks on this journey. GENERAL NARRATIVE | |||
On April 19, 2018 at approximately 8:45 PM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers responded to 524 Stapleton Drive in Kingsport regarding a shooting incident. Upon arrival, they found a 56 year old white male adult victim, recently deceased from what appeared to be gunshot wounds, inside the residence.
The K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division was called to the scene. Detectives are actively investigating this shooting incident as a homicide and are currently in the process of following up on several leads. The suspect responsible is still unidentified and currently remains at large. Detectives request for anyone who has any information that may assist with this investigation to please contact them as soon as possible in the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division at 423-229-9429 or by calling Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111. Alternatively, if an individual who is able to supply information related to this or any other case wishes not to be identified, tips can be submitted anonymously via online “Citizen Feedback” forms available at the following link: https://www.kingsporttn.gov/city-services/police-department/contact-us As this remains an open, active, and as of now unsolved homicide investigation, it would be premature and irresponsible to release further details concerning the matter at this time.
