NEWS RELEASE | |||
SUBJECT: | Detectives Attempting to Identify Debit Card Fraud Suspect | ||
DATE: | April 5, 2018 | ||
CASE #: | 18-009217 | ||
GENERAL NARRATIVE | |||
On March 26, 2018 at approximately 6:00 PM, a woman’s wallet was stolen from her purse while she was shopping in the floral department of Michael’s, located at 2626 West Stone Drive in Kingsport. The woman’s purse was in a shopping cart at the time, and she believes that her wallet was stolen from it by one individual while an accomplice deliberately distracted her with questions about flowers.
Among the items in the victim’s wallet when it was stolen was her debit card. She was soon notified of unauthorized charges on her debit card account that had been made at Target, located in the same shopping center as Michael’s. Her card had been used to fraudulently purchase two Visa gift cards for a total of $400. A review of Target surveillance video revealed footage of a black female suspect who had conducted the fraudulent transaction. A photo taken from that footage has been included in this release. Anyone who recognizes her is asked to contact Detectives in the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division at 423-229-9429 or call Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111. Alternatively, if an individual who is able to supply information related to this or any other case wishes not to be identified, tips can be submitted anonymously via online “Citizen Feedback” forms available at the following link: https://www.kingsporttn.gov/city-services/police-department/contact-us |
