Information Resources: Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteering may seem like a simple thing to do, but for a person or organization in need, freely offering your skills and talents can often make a major impact in someone’s life. And the benefits of volunteering go beyond the task at hand. You can learn new skills, make new friends, improve your mental health and give you a sense of purpose.
If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer, the City of Kingsport offers residents several ways to stay informed about a range of volunteer opportunities and easily sign up to serve the community.
Serve Kingsport website
For residents living inside the Kingsport city limits who have an interest in serving on one of the city’s more than 20 boards, committees or commissions, visit ServeKingsport.com and fill out the form. Your name will go on the list for consideration for openings as they become available.
United Way’s Volunteer United website
For various regional and community volunteer opportunities, visit volunteer-united.org to peruse needs and sign up to serve. Each listing is marked with an interest area, such as advocacy or education, and the descriptions indicate the type of service needed, ages of volunteers accepted, location and accessibility.
KingsportTN.gov Police Department volunteer opportunities page
The Kingsport Police Department offers several ways the community can get involved. Visit the Police Department volunteer opportunities page at KingsportTN.gov to learn about and sign up for the Explorer Program for students ages 14-21. Participants are invited to weekly meetings to learn more about the aspects of law enforcement. Adults ages 18 and over may also apply to volunteer with the department for traffic control assistance, administrative duties and more.
Petworks website volunteer page
Community-minded animal lovers can visit the Petworks shelter website at petworkstn.com and click the Volunteer tab to fill out the form. Petworks always needs volunteers to help feed, bathe and groom animals and for facility and enclosure cleaning.
