Bays Mountain Park embraces the Fun Fest Spirit
Bays Mountain Park is getting into the Fun Fest spirit this year by offering an assortment of events and activities for people and families of all ages to enjoy.
So be sure to take a trip or two up the mountain during the week of Fun Fest (July 14-22) and have fun embracing the outdoor wonder that is Bays Mountain Park.
Gem & Mineral Show (July 15 and July 16 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.)
A huge assortment of colorful and dazzling gems and minerals will be on hand for this annual Fun Fest event. The show will offer demonstrations of faceting, wire wrapping, cabbing, and geode cracking, as well as mineral sales, special activities for kids and a fluorescent mineral display.
The event will take place in the Discover Theater and is sponsored by the Kingsport Gems and Minerals Society and Bays Mountain Park & Planetarium. The event is free, but you will need to purchase a park entrance of $7 per vehicle.
The 13th Annual Wolf Run (July 18 at 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.)
The Wolf run is a seven-mile race on the scenic, tree-shade trails of Bays Mountain Park with the start and finish line located beside the wolf habitat. No dogs/pets are allowed, and organizers recommend you carry water for the race.
The registration fee is $50 and race day registration begins at 5 p.m. at the Farmstead Museum at Bays Mountain Park.
The course closes at one hour and 45 minutes. After this cutoff, you will not be included in the final results.
Post race celebration refreshments and awards will take place at the Farmstead Museum. You must be present to win door prizes. Complete results will be available at www.RunTriCities.org.

Dollar Days at Bays Mountain Park (July 19 – All Day)
All programs at Bays Mountain Park are only $1 per person on July 19. Come out and enjoy a barge ride or a planetarium show for just $1. The park entrance fee is still $7 per vehicle that day. Bays Mountain Park will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on July 19.
Moonlight Hike at Bays Mountain Park (July 20 at 8:30 p.m.)
Spend the evening hiking along Lakeside Trail, around the reservoir, listening to the sounds of nocturnal animals and maybe even hearing the howl of the wolves. The hike will take place at 8:30 p.m. on July 20.
A free ticket is required to participate and can be obtained by registering online through the City of Kingsport’s CivicRec site or in person at the Bays Mountain Park Nature Center. You will need to pay the $7 entrance fee to the park.
