A section of the Kingsport Greenbelt will be temporarily rerouted later this month to accommodate nearby repair work taking place on the Clinchfield Street bridge.

Greenbelt traffic will exit the greenbelt at the sidewalk connection to W. Ravine Road just east of the Holston Valley Drive parking lot. The reroute will then head south down the sidewalk to the sidewalk connection at Cherokee Village Drive, east of Clinchfield Street.

The reroute will then head west on Cherokee Village Drive to Clinchfield Street, taking a left onto Clinchfield Street south until W. Sullivan Street, where greenbelt traffic will proceed on its normal route.

The reroute will take place the week of July 20-24 and if all of the necessary work is complete, this section of the greenbelt will reopen July 25. The City of Kingsport appreciates your patience during this time.

Kingsport Parks and Recreation is excited to announce FurFest – a celebration for dogs and their humans that promises to be tail-wagging fun for everyone.

FurFest is scheduled to take place during Fun Fest 2026 at Kingsport’s Dogwood Park (800 Granby Road) on July 21 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event is free and open to dog-lovers of all ages.

The event will feature toy prizes, treat samples from Happy Howie’s Natural Dog Treats, the Identical Wieners food truck and Freddy’s will be on site selling ice cream and providing free pup cups for the dogs.

You can also enjoy learning about adoptable pets, support a donation drive and celebrate community and canine fun.

“Bring your furry friend and enjoy an evening of fun, community and plenty of paw-some memories,” said Program Administrator Erin Larkin. “We can’t wait to see you there.”

Though the event is free, Kingsport Parks and Recreation officials are asking folks to register to know approximately how many people will be showing up.

Election season is in full swing this summer, with folks going to the polls later this year at the local, state and federal level. In light of people exercising their constitutional rights, now is the time to take more of an interest in your local government, especially the decisions city leaders make every month at the Board of Mayor and Aldermen meetings.

The BMA is the elected governing body of the City of Kingsport and is responsible for approving such things as the annual budget, city ordinances and major projects.

The seven-member board includes Mayor Paul W. Montgomery, Vice Mayor Darrell Duncan, and Aldermen Morris Baker, Betsy Cooper, Colette George, Gary Mayes and James Phillips.

Kingsport’s Public Information and Communications Department wants to remind residents that the best way to learn more about what the BMA votes on each month is by signing up for the BMA Highlights newsletter.

Kingsport Parks and Recreation is now accepting registrations for its Fun Fest 2026 Outdoor Volleyball Tournament.

The two-day event is scheduled to take place July 18-19 at Eastman Park at Horse Creek (2969 Sullivan Gardens Parkway). Games begin at 9 a.m. and continue until the last ball is served.

Men’s Doubles and Women’s Triples will take place on July 18; Coed Doubles and Coed Quads will take place on July 19. The tournament is open for participants ages 16 and older.

The registration fee is $40 for doubles, $60 for triples and $80 for quads.
