KATS launches new pilot program “KATS CONNECT”

Do you or someone you know need a ride within the City limits of Kingsport to get to the doctor, grocery store, job, or other locations? KATS launched a new pilot program in February 2025 called “KATS Connect” on-demand service. Described as a mix between traditional fixed route bus service and an Uber-type ride-sharing service, on-demand public transit (also known as microtransit) allows travelers to request a shared shuttle via an app that picks them up in just a few minutes. Vehicles are then dynamically routed to the final destination, picking up other travelers along the way who are heading in the same direction for efficient, shared rides which achieves higher efficiency, cost savings, and improved rider satisfaction.

After downloading the Ecolane by Mobility app on their smart phone, new and existing customers can begin scheduling, modifying, or canceling trips right from their phone. Look for the Ecolane by Mobility app, download and create an account and start using “KATS Connect” today! This new app will offer flexibility to customers and will allow for more same day trips to City of Kingsport residents. KATS wants residents to familiarize themselves with these valuable transportation services being offered to the community.
