Winners announced in annual Storm Drain Art Contest

The City of Kingsport’s Stormwater Department is pleased to announce the winners of this year’s Storm Drain Art Contest.

The winners and the location of their respective storm drains are as follows:

• Amber Crawford: Revere Street near the post office.
• Dylan Jones: Cherokee Street near public parking lot.
• Sarah Lantis: Shelby Street near old city hall.
• Selena Poston: Corner of Market Street and Cherokee Street.
• Violet Schmitt: Kingsport City Hall Drive-Thru.

Each artist will receive the paint and materials to start their work later this month, and then once complete, a $150 prize.

The contest – now in its ninth year – is a partnership with the city’s stormwater department, the Office of Cultural Arts and Engage Kingsport. The goal of the contest is to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our rivers, stream habitat, and aquatic wildlife.
