The Kingsport Parks and Recreation Department is offering a Basketball Skills and Drills course this fall for children interested in learning the basics of basketball.
Classes will be held every Wednesday from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. from September 4 through September 25 at the V.O. Dobbins, Sr. Complex (301 Louis Street).
During this four-week course, children will learn dribbling, shooting, and passing skills, as well as going over drills to improve speed, footwork, and agility.
The registration fee is $40 per person for city residents and $45 per person for non-city residents. The course is open for children ages 7 and up.

Thanks to the generosity of the Northeast Tennessee Association of Realtors, entrance to Bays Mountain Park on August 25 is FREE for everyone!
If you’ve never been to Bays Mountain Park or are looking for something fun to do outdoors later this month, then take advantage of NETAR’s generosity and come out and enjoy the park.
Bays Mountain Park will be open on August 25 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The nature center will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. that day.
Go for a leisurely walk around the lake, take a short hike up the mountain, visit with the animals or maybe just sit on a bench, read a book and be surrounded by the beauty of Bays Mountain. Remember, there’s no wrong way to spend time at Bays Mountain Park.
NOTE – While gate fees will be waived all day on August 25, program fees (planetarium show, barge ride) will still be in effect and guests will have to pay those to participate.

Kingsport’s Parks and Recreation Department will host its first-ever Sensory Splash Day event at the Riverview Splash Pad (1101 Martin Luther Jr. Drive) later this month.
The event will take place on August 16 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and families of all ages are welcome to attend. The event is free, and no registration is required.
The splash day event is part of the department’s A.S.P.I.R.E. (Adaptive: Sports Programs Inclusive Recreation Experiences) program. Adaptive programs are for people with disabilities or physical limitations and are designed to ensure fair and equal competition among participants.
The splash pad is a zero-depth aquatic play structure that allows children to experience different types of water environments. Features include surface water jets, a snake head water spray, run-through loops with water jets, rotating water cannons, water buckets and a palm tree with water jets.

The Kingsport Parks and Recreation Department is offering beginner archery lessons this fall, so if you’re interested in learning about a unique and exciting sport, then these classes will certainly hit the mark.
Classes will be held every Wednesday from September 4 through October 2 in the Lynn View Community Center auditorium (257 Walker Street). Students will enjoy a course covering all aspects of basic archery.
The cost is $35 for city residents and $40 for non-city residents. The lessons are open to anyone ages 7 and up. The maximum number of registrants is 12.
Participants will use compound bows during the classes and all equipment will be provided.

Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports to sweep the nation with plenty of competitors, teams and leagues playing throughout the Tri-Cities. If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to play this fast-paced game, the Kingsport Parks and Recreation Department can serve you up.
The department plans to offer a beginner’s course in pickleball later this month at the Riverview Pickleball Courts (301 Louis Street). Classes will take place from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursdays from August 29 through October 5 (with no class on September 19).
The course is for participants ages 14 and up and the cost is $30 for city residents and $35 for non-city residents.
Students will enjoy an instructor-led course covering aspects of basic pickleball, including the rules of the game, serving, the return serve and dinking. All equipment will be provided.
