Allandale Mansion is hosting a special 90s Craft Night and Trivia event next month. The event promises to be all that and a bag of chips. So, what’s the 411?
The event will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on September 10 at Allandale Mansion. Come out and enjoy some 90’s trivia while you spark your creativity by making fuse bead creations, friendship bracelets and shrinky dinks.
You can also just pick up some coloring pages and enjoy the company. Supplies will be included, and staff will be on hand to help you with the hot parts of this craft.

The City of Kingsport’s Stormwater Department is pleased to announce the winners of this year’s Storm Drain Art Contest.
The winners are:

- Adelyn Stancel
Each artist will receive the paint and materials to start their work the first week of September, and then once complete, a $150 prize. Drains to be painted are located on Clinchfield Street beside the Press Building, on Fort Henry Drive near the Civic Auditorium, on Wateree Street near the Kingsport Renaissance Center, on Clay Street and at the intersection of Market Street and Commerce Street.
The contest – now in its seventh year – is a partnership with the city’s stormwater department, the Office of Cultural Arts and Engage Kingsport. The goal of the contest is to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our rivers, stream habitat, and aquatic wildlife.

GENERAL NARRATIVE
The Kingsport Police Department was the recipient of two awards at the Tennessee Highway Safety Office 36th Annual Tennessee Lifesavers Conference, 20th Annual Law Enforcement Challenge. Agencies and individuals were recognized for excelling in child passenger safety, drug recognition, teen driver safety, traffic enforcement, and more. Every year, the THSO hosts this event to empower highway safety professionals and reward extraordinary efforts made to reduce traffic fatalities statewide.
KPD placed 3rd in the 101 to 200 sworn officer departments in the Law Enforcement Challenge category and was the regional winner for East Tennessee. This year, 62 Law Enforcement Challenge applications were submitted: 13 from the West region, 18 from Middle region, 15 from East region, and 16 from the Cumberland region. Award winners were determined based on the highest accumulation of points in each category. Points were accumulated based on THSO-grant funded activities to increase traffic safety in local communities.
The Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) is a division of the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security advocating for traffic safety. The THSO works in tandem with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to implement statewide programs addressing occupant protection, impaired driving, speed enforcement, pedestrian and bicycle safety, and crash data collection and analysis. Programs administered by the THSO are 100 percent federally funded. The THSO’s mission is to effectively develop, implement, and evaluate these programs. The City of Kingsport is excited to announce new playground equipment has been installed at two city parks. Time for children to grab their sneakers, head outdoors and enjoy an afternoon of climbing, swinging and exploring.
The playgrounds at Riverview Park and Riverfront Park were temporarily closed last month while crews removed the old equipment in preparation for new equipment being installed. The work took less than two weeks to complete, and all of the new equipment is ready for children.
Riverview Park received a Track Rider, Vista Arc Sphere, X-pod steps and Hanging Pod Links. Riverfront Park received a new seesaw and swings, including one specifically for an adult and child to swing at the same time.
The Riverview Park equipment was funded through an $80,000 State of Tennessee Built Environment Grant.
“We’re thrilled to provide these new, state-of-the-art playground features to the community, especially the Vista Arc Sphere, which is something brand new to Kingsport,” said Parks and Recreation Manager Kitty Frazier. “It’s unique and interesting and we think the kids will love it.”
