The Riverfront has a rich history in the development of Kingsport. A recent resurgence in the area has sparked interest in a potential BLUEWAY to complement our GREENBELT.
- River Recreation is an economic driver – a recent TVA study has shown that 1 mile of shoreline = $1 Million in economic impact
- Outdoor recreation participants in TN spend $21.6 billion annually on watersports (kayaking, stand-up paddling, rafting, canoeing, and motorized boating)
- Rethinking Riverfront Park with added Destination Play Areas, Bank Improvements and River Views
- Development of Kingsport Landing Park (at the roundabout) for Active play areas, Views and River Access as well as Summer Festivals and Events
- Upstream Improvements to Tilthammer Shoals area for a new Whitewater Park Area
- Completion of Riverbend Park with connecting Trails, Fishing Pier and Passive Recreation
- Additional Boat Ramps, Bridge and Access points to the River at Domtar Park
- Navigational Improvements at the existing Weir Dam near Eastman Water Intake
- Explore the possibility of Pedestrian Lighting along sections of the Riverfront Encouraging Commercial Investment
