NEWS RELEASE | ||||
SUBJECT: | Suspect Sought in Check Fraud that Targeted Elderly Woman on Hospice Care
DATE: | December 21, 2022
CASE #: | 22-018187 | |||
GENERAL NARRATIVE | ||||
In September 2022, an incident was reported to the Kingsport Police Department where a personal check was stolen, forged, and cashed for the amount of $2,000. The victim in this case is an elderly woman, in poor health, and on hospice care.
To further complicate this case, the check was written to an individual who has been in prison since May of this year and then cashed using an identification card belonging to that incarcerated prisoner. The unidentified white female adult suspect who actually cashed the check was captured on bank surveillance video during the transaction. Photos taken from that footage have been included in this release. Anyone who recognizes her is asked to contact Detectives in the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division at 423-229-9429 or call Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111. Alternatively, if an individual who is able to supply information related to this or any other case wishes not to be identified, tips can be submitted anonymously via online “Citizen Feedback” forms available at the following link: https://www.kingsporttn.gov/city-services/police-department/contact-us |
