SUBJECT: | Serial Stalker Albert Toronjo Back in Jail on New Charges | ||
DATE: | July 31, 2017 | ||
CASE #: | 17-019184 | ||
GENERAL NARRATIVE | |||
Notorious serial stalker, Albert J. Toronjo, was only out of jail for 11 days before finding himself right back in jail on new charges of Aggravated Stalking.
On July 25, 2017, Mr. Toronjo made an unsolicited phone call to a 62 year old female resident of Kingsport. The victim did not know him. He identified himself as “Al,” asked her if she played cards, complimented her on her personality, and then inquired as to her age and if her husband was still alive. On July 28, 2017, Mr. Toronjo called the victim back, again identifying himself as “Al,” and asking how the victim was doing. She told him she was calling the police and hung up. On July 31, 2017, Detectives with the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division spoke with Mr. Toronjo, who denied having called the victim. Detectives showed him a photograph of her cell phone displaying an incoming call from his number, but he continued to deny calling her. He told the investigators that he had thrown his phone away in an attempt to destroy any incriminating evidence against him. Based upon the new allegations and the resultant investigation compounded by a repeated pattern of behavior, Mr. Toronjo was arrested, charged with Aggravated Stalking, and confined in the Kingsport City Jail. He has since been transported to the Sullivan County Jail in Blountville where he remains confined pending arraignment. At least four additional complaints against Mr. Toronjo have been filed with K.P.D. in the past week, with those cases still under investigation and additional charges likely pending. Area citizens are encouraged to familiarize themselves with his photograph and method of operation which typically centers around repeated unsolicited contact, either in person or via telephone, with older women who have recently been widowed. Anyone who has experienced repeated unsolicited contact from Mr. Toronjo recently (within the past two weeks) who has not yet spoken with law enforcement is encouraged to contact the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division at 423-229-9429 immediately. Mr. Toronjo’s history of investigation by the Kingsport Police Department dates back to 2014.
