NEWS RELEASE | ||||
SUBJECT: | Kingsport’s Independence Day Festivities in Downtown Kingsport (Traffic Advisory) | |||
DATE: | June 28, 2023 | |||
GENERAL NARRATIVE | ||||
On Saturday, July 1, 2023 Kingsport’s Independence Day Festivities will take place throughout the day in Downtown Kingsport. The day’s events include:
· 10:00 AM: 69th Annual Mack Riddle American Legion Independence Day Parade · 5:00 PM: Kingsport’s 2nd Annual Red, White and Boom Independence Day Celebration A detailed schedule of activities has been included with this release. Road closures shown on the included maps will go into effect well in advance of the above events. In addition to the above activities, an unofficial privately sponsored “fun run” has been scheduled to take place in and around the area of the parade route prior to the actual parade. The Kingsport Police Department would like to remind anyone involved that this event will not take place on a closed course, so runners and walkers will be expected to run or walk on the sidewalks rather than in the roadway where vehicular traffic may still be flowing. Anyone traveling through the downtown area throughout the day should be prepared for increased traffic congestion and delays. Motorists are strongly encouraged to pay attention, watch out for pedestrians, exercise caution and patience, and obey all traffic instructions. Anyone not wishing to participate in these events is encouraged to plan ahead and seek an alternate route to their destination. |
