SUBJECT: | Kingsport Police Investigating Fatal Sevier Terrace Shooting Incident (Update) | |||

GENERAL NARRATIVE | ||||
On January 2, 2023, shortly after 8:00 PM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers and Detectives responded to an alleyway behind the 1200 block of West Sullivan Street in the Sevier Terrace area of Kingsport in reference to a shooting incident.
Responding officers located an adult male victim, identified as Mark A. Miller (57 years of age of Kingsport), deceased from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds. The immediate area surrounding the alleyway was temporarily cordoned off to allow for a thorough preliminary investigation and processing of the scene; however, the scene has since been cleared. The decedent has been transported to the East Tennessee State University James H. Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City for an autopsy to be performed by the Medical Examiner. A person of interest in this incident has been identified and is currently in law enforcement custody on unrelated charges. To preserve the integrity of the investigation, that person of interest will not be publicly identified at this time. As previously stated, this appears to have been an isolated incident, and there is no reason to believe there is any danger to the general public. This incident remains under open and active investigation by the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division. As such, absolutely no further details will be released at this time. As previously released: On January 2, 2023, shortly after 8:00 PM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers and Detectives responded to the 500 block of Bellvue Avenue in the Sevier Terrace area of Kingsport in reference to a shooting incident. As a result of this incident, one adult male is deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. The scene is now secured. This appears to have been an isolated incident, and there is currently no reason to believe there is any further danger to the general public. The associated investigation by the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division is still in its infancy and remains active and ongoing. As such, no additional information, to include decedent identification, is able to be released at this time. Further details will be shared as they become available, but only at an appropriate point in the investigation. |
