GENERAL NARRATIVE | |||
On November 25, 2016 at approximately 2:30 AM, two adjacent West Stone Drive businesses were burglarized. An unidentified suspect unlawfully entered The Mattress Place, located at 711 West Stone Drive, Suite 4, in Kingsport. The suspect appears to have used a key to gain entry; however, at this time it is unclear how he came to be in possession of it. Once inside, he ransacked the business and stole a handgun and several hundred dollars in cash.
While inside The Mattress Place, the suspect climbed into an attic area and ultimately fell through the ceiling of a neighboring business, Freedom Firearms, located in Suite 2 of the same shopping center. Immediately upon entering the second business, a motion alarm sounded; however, the suspect was able to quickly grab two additional handguns and flee prior to discovery. Based on surveillance video footage, the suspect appears to be a white male adult with a slim build, short hair, and a beard. Photos taken from that footage have been included in this release. Anyone who recognizes him is asked to contact Detectives in the K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division at 423-229-9429 or call Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111. Alternatively, if an individual who is able to supply information related to this or any other case wishes not to be identified, tips can be submitted anonymously via online “Citizen Feedback” forms available at the following link: https://www.kingsporttn.gov/city-services/police-department/contact-us |
