| GENERAL NARRATIVE | |||
| On August 21, 2020 at approximately 8:30 PM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers responded to a motor vehicle collision on Konnarock Road at the intersection with Warpath Drive in Kingsport. Due to the serious nature of the incident, Crash Reconstructionists with the K.P.D. Traffic Unit were called to the scene. Their subsequent investigation revealed the following:
A gray 2011 Mercedes-Benz GL450 sport utility vehicle, driven by Melinda J. Goodson with sole passenger, Leslie H. Ashmore, was eastbound on Konnarock Road approaching Warpath Drive. Meanwhile, a gray 1995 Toyota Corolla, driven and solely occupied by Wilma J. Massengill, was westbound on Warpath Drive attempting a right turn onto Konnarock Road. For unknown reasons, Ms. Massengill failed to properly negotiate the turn, allowing her Toyota to cross the centerline into the direct path of the oncoming Mercedes. The two vehicles collided head-on. Ms. Massengill was killed in the crash. Ms. Goodson sustained possible injuries; however, Mr. Ashmore was not injured. While at this time there is no reason to believe that Ms. Goodson contributed to the crash, she was cited for failure to comply with financial responsibility (no insurance). This incident remains under active investigation by the K.P.D. Traffic Unit. As such, no additional details are available for release at this time. |
