SUBJECT: Crockett Ridge Golf Course Officer Involved Shooting

GENERAL NARRATIVE
Kingsport Police Department Officers responded to Crockett Ridge Golf Course on Monday, May 5th, on a report of an intoxicated man armed with a handgun who was threatening to harm himself. Despite attempts to negotiate with the armed subject, the situation escalated, and both a Kingsport Police Officer and the armed subject fired shots. The man was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident. No officers were injured.
At the request of the 2nd Judicial District Attorney General Barry Staubus and the Kingsport Police Department, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation responded. In the interest of transparency, TBI will be conducting an independent investigation into the events surrounding this incident.
