Kingsport Senior Center hits membership milestone
For the first time in its history, the Kingsport Senior Center has reached a membership milestone with 5,000 active members on its roster.
“All senior center staff worked hard on this goal, and we are all thrilled to have met it,” said Senior Center Director Shirley Buchanan. “We had to struggle and adapt to make it through the pandemic, but we’ve seen steady growth since then and we’re hoping to keep growing throughout the coming year.”
The Kingsport Senior Center had just over 3,200 members during the pandemic, but through the hard work of staff, the facility increased its membership to 4,000 in 2022 and 4,800 in 2023. As of last week, the senior center topped 5,000 members for the first time in its history.
Located on the first floor of Kingsport Renaissance Center (1200 E. Center Street), the Kingsport Senior Center offers membership for those ages 50 and older and provides a wide range of activities, classes and programs every day of the week, including ones for arts and crafts, games, sports, fitness and cooking.
The Kingsport Senior Center has five branch sites – Lynn View Community Center, V.O. Dobbins Center, First Broad Street United Methodist Church, Colonial Heights United Methodist Church and the Kingsport Aquatic Center.
