Kingsport Police Department issues annual report
The Kingsport Police Department saw a significant drop in burglaries and motor vehicle theft last year when compared to the previous year. In addition, the department witnessed a decrease in calls for service, a high clearance rate for its detectives and reported no traffic fatalities in 2025.
These are just a few of the highlights from this year’s Annual Report from the Kingsport Police Department. The 23-page report includes a brief history of the department, an overview of the various divisions and statistics on crime, traffic crashes, arrests, response times and training that occurred during the previous year.
According to the report, over the past year, the KPD saw the number of burglaries decrease by 25.6%; motor vehicle thefts by 29%, vandalism by 3%, larceny by 22.8% and trespassings by 14%.
The Kingsport Police Department responded to 53,837 calls for service during 2025 – a decrease of 5.2% over the previous year’s 56,800 calls for service. Detectives investigated 2,602 cases with a clearance rate of 81%.
“As with many other years, 2025 brought its own challenges, including recruitment and retention, population growth and many societal issues happening across the country,” said Kingsport Police Chief Jason Bellamy. “Regardless, our team of professional officers continues to utilize both traditional and contemporary policing strategies to face these challenges and meet the community’s needs.”
Officers responded to 2,125 vehicle collisions in 2025, issued 11,381 traffic citations (parking, speeding, warnings) and reported zero traffic fatalities in 2025. During 2025, the Vice Unit made 176 arrests, seized approximately $1.4 million worth of illegal narcotics, $55,547 in currency and two vehicles valued at an estimated $25,000.
Dispatchers received more than 202,322 calls during 2025, averaging 554 calls per day. Out of these, 62,721 were 911 calls.

- SWAT was activated 8 times during the year.
- The Kingsport Bomb Squad responded to 2 calls.
- The Kingsport City Jail housed 2,294 individuals.
- Public Information Officer issued 83 news releases.
- Officers completed more than 22,500 hours of training.
The Kingsport Police Department has been accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies since 1992.
