Kingsport partners with award-winning documentary series
The City of Kingsport has partnered with the acclaimed documentary series Viewpoint, hosted by actor Dennis Quaid, to not only tell the story of the Model City, but also highlight its unique amenities and illustrate how the city has reinvented itself over the past quarter century.
Viewpoint is a nationally recognized television series that explores a wide range of topics, from technology and innovation to culture and lifestyle. Its short-form documentaries are distributed in all 50 states. The segment featuring Kingsport, which is hosted by actor Dennis Quaid, will be distributed to more than 170 public television stations throughout the United States beginning the week of November 13.
In addition, Kingsport will be featured in a commercial campaign across multiple national networks. This one-minute commercial will air during primetime on the Fox Business Network on November 9. The commercial will also air in the top 100 U.S. markets throughout the month of November. The estimated viewership is 84 million homes.
Additionally, the production team behind the Viewpoint documentary assisted in the production of a six minute corporate documentary the City of Kingsport intends to use for its own marketing and recruitment initiatives on its website and social media channels.
“We’re pleased to have partnered with Viewpoint in sharing Kingsport’s story to the nation and highlighting some of the world-class amenities you can find here in our town,” said City Manager Chris McCartt. “Their team did an outstanding job, and we can’t wait for everyone to see the results.”
With interviews from City Manager Chris McCartt, Visit Kingsport Relocation Manager Jeff Fleming and Uptown Bakery Co-Owner Lynette Reese, the corporate documentary tells the story of how Kingsport reinvented itself over the past 25 years, starting with an economic development summit in 1999 and highlighting the five initiatives that grew out of that process.
The documentary showcases notable Kingsport amenities, such as Bays Mountain Park & Planetarium, the Kingsport Farmers Market, the Kingsport Aquatic Center and the Kingsport Greenbelt. Furthermore, the documentary touches on regional partnerships, the growth of the downtown area in recent years and of course, our strong sense of community pride, better known as the Kingsport Spirit.
“We’ve managed to reinvent ourselves over the past 25 years, while maintaining our unique character and sense of community,” Fleming said. “It’s a great story and we’re pleased Viewpoint is here to help us share it with the rest of the country.”
