Kingsport needs volunteers for advisory boards, commissions
If you’d like to make a difference in your hometown, the City of Kingsport is in need of volunteers to serve on four of its advisory boards and commissions. The boards and commissions in need of volunteers include:
- Board of Zoning Appeals
- Kingsport Higher Education Commission
- Kingsport Housing and Redevelopment Authority
- Neighborhood Advisory Commission
The Board of Zoning Appeals meets the first Thursday of each month at noon and consists of five members with each one serving a five-year term. The board is charged with hearing and deciding on appeals to zoning orders and requests for variances to zoning ordinances.
The Kingsport Higher Education Commission meets quarterly and consists of 10 members with each one serving a four-year term. The commission provides oversight to the city facilities within the Academic Village and helps develop specific goals for higher education in the greater Kingsport community.
The Kingsport Housing and Redevelopment Authority consists of five members with each one serving a five-year term. The authority oversees the affordable housing properties within the City of Kingsport.
The Neighborhood Advisory Commission meets on the last Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. and consists of 12 members with each one serving a three-year term. The commission aims to strengthen neighborhoods, provide a strong communication channel between residents and the city and offer advice to solve problems within the neighborhoods.
