Kingsport needs volunteers for advisory boards, commissions
The City of Kingsport is in need of volunteers to serve on eight of its advisory boards and commissions. If you’re interested in making a difference in your hometown, the following boards and commissions are in need of volunteers:
- Beverage Board
- Cultural Arts Commission
- Employee Dependent Scholarship Program
- Kingsport Parks & Recreation Commission
- Kingsport Public Library Commission
- PetWorks
- Senior Center Council
- Tree Advisory Board
The Beverage Board issues all permits to sell, store, manufacture and distribute beer in the City of Kingsport. The term length for members is three years and meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at 1:30 p.m. at Kingsport City Hall.
The Cultural Arts Commission advises city staff and the Board of Mayor and Aldermen on matters related to public art. The term length for members is three years and meetings are held the second Friday in February, April, June, August, October and December at 11 a.m. at various locations throughout the city.
The Employee Dependent Scholarship Program oversees all aspects of the program, establishes and reviews eligibility criteria and collects and disseminates scholarship applications. The term length for members is three years and meetings are scheduled only as needed.
The Kingsport Parks and Recreation Commission provides oversight and guidance for Kingsport’s parks, recreational facilities and programs. The term length for members is three years and meetings are held the fourth Monday of each month (excluding July) at 4 p.m. at various locations throughout the city.
The Kingsport Public Library Commission advises on certain library matters and accepts donations to be used for public library purposes. The term length for members is three years and meetings are held the second Monday of each month at 5 p.m. at Kingsport City Hall.
PetWorks advises on the operation of the animal shelter. The term length for members varies and the board meets on the fourth Thursday of each month at 12 p.m. at Kingsport City Hall.
The Senior Center Council makes recommendations to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission and staff concerning senior citizen programming, funds and facilities. The term length for members is three years and meetings are held the third Thursday of every other month beginning in February at 12:30 pm in the Renaissance Center.
The Tree Advisory Board advises and makes recommendations to city staff for the planting and care of trees on city property. The term length for members is two years and meetings are held the third Thursday of every other month at 9 a.m. at the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce.
