Kingsport MTPO announces Statewide Community Travel Survey
The Kingsport Metropolitan Transportation Planning Organization is asking the community to participate in a statewide travel survey, where the results will help guide transportation priorities throughout the region.
The My Travels Count survey will launch soon. The Center for Transportation Research (CTR) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville is partnering with local transportation planning agencies in the region to conduct the survey.
My Travels Count is a data collection tool used to measure local, regional, and statewide travel and activity patterns. The insights gained from this survey will help local planning agencies better understand transportation needs and prioritize transportation projects for years to come.
Over the next two weeks, recruitment letters will be mailed to residents inviting households to participate in the survey. Only selected households are eligible to participate. Another round of recruitment letters will be mailed in the fall.
Participants will be asked to complete a brief 5-minute survey about their household. Then, they will be asked to tell us about the places their household went on an assigned day. This step takes about 20-25 minutes per household member. All participating households will receive up to $10 per person to compensate for the time and effort needed to join the survey.
“Responses will be used to understand where people are going in their daily lives, how they get there, and how much time and effort it takes them,” said Kingsport MTPO Coordinator Lesley Christian. “The results of the survey create a snapshot of how our transportation system is used and planners will use that snapshot to plan and develop future improvements.”
The information provided will be converted to statistical data and used only for study purposes. As required by the Privacy Act, any information obtained during this survey will be kept confidential. No personal contact information will be sold or shared.
