Kingsport celebrating National Public Library Week
What can you find at the library? Plenty of books of course, but also a good selection of magazines, newspapers, video games, movies and reference material. And for many people, you can find joy within the walls of a public library.
Next week you can discover your own joy by visiting the Kingsport Public Library and helping them celebrate National Public Library Week (April 19-25). First sponsored in 1958, National Public Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries of all types across the country.
“National Library Week is a great reminder of just how much your public library does for the community,” said Library Manager Stephanie Griffin. “Whether you’re a longtime patron or haven’t visited in a while, now is the perfect time to explore the Kingsport Public Library.”
The theme for this year’s observance is “Find Your Joy” – an invitation for people of all backgrounds to explore and discover what sparks joy in them at the library. As such, now is an excellent time to discover all the resources found within the Kingsport Public Library, including thousands of fiction and non-fiction books, audiobooks, DVDs, video games and so much more.
During National Library Week, take time to rediscover the library and see how it draws us together as a community. Whether you’re visiting for books, resources, or a place to connect, the Kingsport Public Library is here for you.
Events taking place at the Kingsport Public Library next week during National Public Library Week include:
Bugs! (April 21 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.) – Join library staff for a buggy good time as we make crafts and play games about bugs.
After Hours Book Club (April 23 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.) – April’s book selection is Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. This event is aimed at adults. Feel free to bring dinner and/or snacks.
Books & Beyond: Marcy Brennan (April 24 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.) – Join us in welcoming local author and illustrator Marcy Brennan. Her Pico picture book series follows a curious little Maltipoo as he explores the world with wonder and delight. Copies will be available for purchase and signing.
Community Art Supply Swap (April 25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.) – Do you have a bunch of art supplies sitting at home that you never use and want new things to try? Come to the Community Art Supply Swap and trade your supplies for something new for free! Can’t make it but still want to donate? Drop off your gently used art supplies at the library anytime between now and April 24. Anything left unclaimed will be used by the library or donated to other organizations.
“Whatever draws you in, the library has something for everyone,” Griffin added. “Maybe you’re preparing for a career change, launching a business, raising a family or embracing retirement. Whatever the reason, the Kingsport Public Library is here to support your journey.”
