Improvements coming to Kingsport Police Department Non-Emergency Number
The City of Kingsport is implementing a new automated system for the Kingsport Police Department’s non-emergency phone number in an attempt to better direct your questions and concerns to the appropriate department.
Kingsport Police Department’s non-emergency phone number is 423-246-9111 and its new automated system is scheduled to go into effect August 26. When residents call the non-emergency phone number, an automated system will provide a series of department options for residents to select, depending on their issue or concern.
This new automated system is being implemented to relieve some of the call volume made to Kingsport’s dispatchers, allowing them to focus more on true emergency calls.
The non-emergency number will include the following menu options:
- Water customer service (water outages or low water pressure).
- Public Works (garbage collection issues, traffic signal not working).
- Non-emergency concerns (police, fire, EMS).
- Kingsport City Jail.
- Kingsport Police Records
- City Hall (general questions or concerns about the City of Kingsport).
NOTE – Residents should call 911 for true emergencies only, when there is an immediate threat to life, health or property, including:
- Life-threatening medical emergencies (e.g., chest pain, choking)
- Accidents with injuries
- Fires (home, business, vehicle, etc.)
- Crimes in progress (including break-ins)
- Fights or physical altercations in progress
- Missing children or vulnerable adults
- Situations involving weapons
This guidance is intended to help residents understand when to call 911 and when to use the non-emergency number. Please note these examples are not exhaustive but hopefully provide a helpful outline for common situations.
