Bays Mountain Park hosts 39th annual StarFest Convention
The Bays Mountain Astronomy Club and Bays Mountain Park and Planetarium are pleased to announce registration is now open for its 39th annual StarFest convention – scheduled for November 1-3. Attendees will enjoy a long weekend of astronomical fun and learning with fellow astronomy enthusiasts.
The theme for this year’s convention is “Moonstruck” with the event showcasing four speakers who are experts in their knowledge and research about the Moon and other moons in our Solar System. The convention also includes door prizes, the ever-popular swap shop and telescope viewings.
“There’s a lot going on now in astronomy and space exploration regarding these natural satellites and our speakers will be guiding us through this moonscape of wonder,” said Planetarium Director Adam Thanz. “We think you’ll really enjoy this year’s topic and speakers.”
Guest speakers include:
- Dr. Erika Grundstrom – Director of Astronomy Labs – Vanderbilt University
- Dr. Sarah Milkovich – Planetary Geologist and Spacecraft Engineer
- Dr. Amy L. Fagan – Associate Professor of Geology, Geosciences and Natural Resources Department Head – Western Carolina University
- Dr. Caitlin Ahrens – Planetary Geologist – Center for Research and Exploration in Space Science and Technology II at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center
Registration includes attendance to all of the event’s speakers and activities, five fabulous meals and a custom-art T-shirt. Registration with payment must be received by October 13.
