Allandale Mansion is bringing back its popular Holiday Tea event just in time for the Christmas season.
As with last year, the event will be held on two days – December 20 and December 22 – from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are $20 and advance registration is required. The event is recommended for ages 10 and under and guests are encouraged to wear their best holiday outfit.
During the event, guests will enjoy a light snack, a glass of fruit “tea,” beautiful Christmas decorations with photo opportunities, time to make an ornament to take home and even a dance in the parlor.
An adult must remain with the child during the event. There is no ticket charge for the accompanying adult, but they will not receive a snack nor do a craft.

Kingsport’s Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registrations for its annual Winter Break Camp. Kids will have the opportunity to enjoy games and activities, arts and crafts, movie time and so much more.
The camp will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. December 27-29 and January 2-5 at the V.O. Dobbins, Sr. Complex (301 Louis Street). Children ages 6 to 12 can register and the cost per child is $45 for city residents and $50 for non-city residents.
Camp participants will need to pack a lunch and a snack daily.
“If you’ve never participated in one of our camps before, know that it’ll be fun filled for the kids with plenty of games and activities,” said Program Administrator Renee Ensor. “Our staff truly works hard all week to keep the kids active and engaged.”

Centennial Park – March to the rhythm of the holiday season by paying a visit to Centennial Park to listen to the Dobyns-Bennett High School Marching Band. As the band performs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., expect to see some created snow falling throughout the Main Street park.
DECEMBER 9
Glen Bruce Park – Come out and play in the snow with some of your favorite Christmas guests, including Santa Claus and the Grinch from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Yuletide Carolers from Lamplight Theatre will be singing all your favorite Christmas carols, while hot chocolate will be provided by the Kingsport Neighborhood Commission.

Bays Mountain Park is hosting its first-ever “Holiday at Bays” event this month with an evening of festive activities, including wreath-making, barge rides, owl searching, and an amazing laser light show in the planetarium.
Holiday at Bays will take place on December 9, kicking off with a holiday laser light show at 5:30 p.m. in the planetarium (Cost: $10 per person). Then, if you choose, you can participate in a second activity (Owl Prowl, Barge Ride or Wreath Workshop) for an additional fee.
Laser Light Show:
Celebrate the season under the planetarium dome with a selection of our favorite holiday tunes brought to life with gorgeous laser choreography, full dome visuals and colorful lighting effects. Vibrant animations and gorgeous abstracts dance above your heads, as the music takes you away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. It might be cold outside, but it’s nice and toasty under the dome.
Owl Prowl:
Join naturalist Fred Hilton on a journey through the winter forests as he puts his owl calling skills to the test. This program will involve a short hike and participants should be prepared with sturdy shoes, warm jackets, and flashlights.
Barge Ride:
Enjoy a nighttime barge ride around our lake under the glow of Christmas lights. Participants will explore the lake and talk about the history of Christmas in Appalachia. Hot chocolate will be served prior to boarding but be sure to dress warmly as it will be cold on the water.
Wreath Workshop:
Continue the tradition of wreath making using natural materials found right in our own backyards. This class is a great way to express your creativity and learn a little about Christmas of times past. The park will provide all the materials. Plan to meet at the Farmstead at 6:30 p.m. to start crafting.

The Kingsport Parks and Recreation Department is offering a special Parents Night Out event this Saturday. Parents will be able to drop their children off at the V.O. Dobbins, Sr. Complex for a few hours and enjoy an evening at dinner, at the movies or just relaxing on the couch.
The event will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on December 9 at V.O. Dobbins (301 Louis Street). The cost is $10 per child and children ages 6 to 12 can attend. The maximum number of registrants is 50.
Activities will be like those found during normal camp programs – video games, dodgeball, basketball, kickball, coloring, puzzles, board and card games. Light snacks will also be provided.
