A fun, free family event is coming to the V.O. Dobbins, Sr., Complex later this month – a frantic game for the young to enjoy and a creative activity the older generation will appreciate.
Kingsport Parks and Recreation is hosting a Cardboard Cruise-In and Four Square Competition on April 29, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at V.O. Dobbins (301 Louis Street). The event is free and open to the public. No registration is required.
Cruising brings back fond memories for many folks. Slowly driving your freshly washed car or truck down the street or by the lake is a simple pleasure for many adults.
The Cardboard Cruise In calls for participants to design their own cardboard vehicle using provided boxes and supplies to create the perfect hot rod, muscle car or monster truck. Feel free to bring your own art supplies or a cardboard ride you’ve already designed and decorated.
If you’re the competitive type, then Four Square may be more to your liking. Four Square is a fast-paced, four-player game popular among school-aged children. Participants play on a square court, each in one quarter of the court and bounce a ball between each other until someone makes an error and is eliminated.
The Four Square Competition will have divisions for both kids and adults.

Calling all artists, artisans, creatives and craftspeople of all trades. Applications are now being accepted for Christmas Connection 2023. The two-day event will take place November 10-11 at the Meadowview Conference Resort and Convention Center.
“The Christmas Connection – Artistic Creations Fair” is sponsored by the Kingsport Office of Cultural Arts and is celebrating its 44th year of artistic creations. The event hosts the region’s best craftspeople, artisans, artists, and creatives. People from our region and beyond look forward to the Christmas Connection year after year.
Application deadline is July 1, 2023, and there is no cost to apply. Christmas Connection is by invitation only. All applications are reviewed by a selection committee, taking various factors into consideration to create a high quality, attractive show having a good mix of artistic and craft creations.
