Libraries today have evolved into interactive spaces where imagination still runs wild while adding technology to the experience. Christine “Chris” Markley was recently hired as the new Library Manager, and her goal is to see Kingsport’s Library go to the next level.
Chris Markley has been a librarian for over 12 years and has experience in a variety of libraries. Most recently she was Director of the Hawkins County Library System. She has also worked as the Library Manager of Selma Public Library in Selma, NC and as an Elementary School Librarian at Washington Elementary School in Barto, PA. During her tenure at Washington Elementary School she was a frequent presenter at local and state Librarian and Reading Specialist conferences. She, unsurprisingly, loves to read and reads over 120 books a year. Chris has been a reviewer of books for School Library Journal and Library Media Connection.
Chris relocated to Kingsport from Clayton, NC with her husband, Tom, 5 years ago. Tom is a chemist at Eastman. As avid travelers, they have visited 49 states and 9 countries. They are just back from a vacation to Banff, Canada and Glacier National Park in Montana.
She received a MLS in Library Science with a K-12 Teaching Certificate from Kutztown University and a B.S. in Economics from Syracuse University.
