The Kingsport Farmer’s Market facility opened in August 2012 and quickly became a favorite location for social gatherings in Kingsport. An original building of the former Kingsport Press, the historic setting provides a unique backdrop for events such as weddings, fundraisers and festivals.
Kingsport and surrounding area residents enjoy the Farmers Market, an event held weekly at the distinct building. Every Wednesday and Sunday starting in May, over 35 vendors and farmers bring their baked goods and locally grown fresh produce to sell to the public. There is no admission cost to the Farmers Market – free to the public. In 2015, readers of The Tennessee Magazine voted our Kingsport Farmers Market weekly event the best in east Tennessee!
The public is able to rent the Kingsport Farmers Market facility for their events, too. Private rentals are available starting at $250 for up to 8 hours, and $450 for a full day. Some restrictions apply and availability is limited. Reservations may be made up to a year in advance.

Kingsport’s Frank L Cloud Park houses the only Active Transportation Rest Area (ATRA) in the world. An ATRA is a station of structures usually containing a water station, shelter, seating and a bicycle air pump. These stations provide individuals who are exercising and spending time outdoors the ability to relax in the shade and rehydrate.
ATRAs are an original Kingsport Development Services concept that was made into a reality. The Kingsport Development Services is department responsible for city planning, building and community development.
The first ATRA was installed at Kingsport Frank L Cloud Park in December 2015. Through the Tennessee Department of Transportation Multimodal Grant Kingsport received in 2015, four ATRA installations will be installed throughout the city.
Development Services has purchased three additional bicycle air pumps. Installation of these air pumps includes The Barking Lot, the Exchange Place Greenbelt access point and Riverwalk Park near Netherland Inn. Additionally at Riverwalk Park, a bicycle work station will be installed to compliment the bike pump.
ATRAs are a flexible concept, as many different outdoor necessities can be added. They are expected to become very popular in Kingsport space as ATRAs were mentioned in ONEKingsport post-summit workgroups. Popular add-ons during public demonstrations have included solar powered charging stations for electronic devices, equipment repair station for bikes or skateboards, and editable landscaping such as vegetables and fruits.
Tennessee Department of Transportation representatives have expressed an interest in statewide implementation of ATRAs. The City of Kingsport is proud to offer ATRAs in an effort to keep pushing our city to be a healthier place through outdoor activities.
Many people think about swim lessons for their children when summer has already started. But did you know if you participate in swim lessons in the fall, the classes are smaller and less crowded? Your child will also receive more one-on-one attention due to the smaller class size.
Swim lessons at the Kingsport Aquatic Center are offered year round. Each session includes eight classes. If you’re unsure which class your child needs, a swim test is offered and can help determine the correct class based on current skills.
If you’re an Aquatic Center or YMCA member, it is $50 for the first child and $45 for additional children. If you’re not a member, but would still like your child to participate in swim lessons, it is $60 for the first child and $55 for additional children.
For more information, please visit www.swimkingsport.com. Registration is available online or you may call the Aquatic Center at 423-343-9758 to sign up your child.
Kingsport Aquatic Center swimmers can enjoy the Outdoor Water Park on weekends starting next month and leading up to its closing date on September 25. All the indoor pools will still be open and the water aerobics classes will still be held.
The indoor Olympic pool and three heated pools are open year round and are open to all swimmers. The indoor pool hours are Monday through Friday, 5:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6:00 p.m.
The Aqua Run will be available during the weekend hours starting October 1. The Aqua Run is an inflatable obstacle course for swimmers to climb on, involving different hurdles and a slide to reach the end.
After September 25, the Aquatic Center staff will maintain the pool until the final outdoor pool event, the ‘Drool Party.’ The ‘Drool Party’ will be held on Saturday, October 1 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The event is open to all dog owners and their dogs that want to swim in the outdoor water park before the cleaning process for winter starts. Dogs must be up-to-date on current vaccines. Please bring records or a receipt from your veterinarian. Admission is $5 per dog and humans are free. The Outdoor Water Park will be closed for the season after the ‘Drool Party.’
In an effort to maintain our first class facility, the indoor pools will be closed for maintenance September 6 through 11.
The Outdoor Water Park will reopen in May of 2017.
